Girls Learning to Navigate Emotionally Regulated With Confidence

Girls today are not “too emotional.” They are emotionally overloaded and what they need is emotional regulation, not correction.

Emotional regulation is the ability to notice emotions, name emotions and respond to emotions without being overtaken by them. Emotionally regulating slows girls down to pause vs. panic, breathe vs. explode and communicate vs. shut down. Emotionally regulating is not about suppressing feelings; it’s about understanding them.

At Project DIVA International, we teach emotional regulation as a life skill. Instead of saying what our girls ‘should know’ - emotional regulation is practiced, modeled and reinforced. Emotional regulation guides girls towards understanding that feelings are information, not instructions. This gives them permission to feel deeply while still feeling safe.

Without emotional regulation, stress turns into shutdown, frustration turns into anger. and anxiety turns into avoidance. In PDI girls learn choice and control.

Emotional regulation supports educational success, healthy friendships and personal peace, also. This is a true reset of their nervous systems.

We are learning that as we consistently provide Emotional Regulation Coaching, girls realize that owning their ‘calm’ is something they can create, not something they have to wait for.

We practice emotional regulation through real life scenarios that include actively making time for a ‘power hour’ to reflect, journal and do other habit building practices that centers one in their day. Through this commitment, emotional regulation becomes muscle memory and ultimately …  freedom.

When girls are taught emotional regulation consistently, they stop seeing emotions as problems and start seeing them as power. Emotional regulation doesn’t make girls less emotional, it makes them more capable.

And that is the goal: Girls who feel everything, yet are ruled by nothing.
